The Oregon REALTORS® Property Management Academy is a comprehensive 3.5 day Property Management Academy that focuses on developing competent, ethical, and professional property managers. This academy brings in industry experts to lead a deep dive into business development, day-to-day operations of managing property, landlord/tenant law, fair housing, preparing policies and procedures to minimize risk, and emergency responses.

Below is the agenda for the academy. It is required to attend all sessions in order to receive CE.

Day 1 November 15th

9 am to 12 pm, Concepts, and Practices with Violet Wilson
1 pm to 4 pm, Business Set up with Bradley Kraus

Day 2 November 16th

9 am to 12 pm, Landlord/Tenant Law with Bradley Kraus
1 pm to 4 pm, Fair Housing with Shyle Ruder, FHCO

Day 3 November 17th

9 am to 12 pm, Property Level Functions with Violet Wilson
1 pm to 1:30 pm, Emergency Preparedness with Summit Cleaning and Restoration
1:30 pm to 4 pm, Risk Management with Larry Johnson

Day 4 November 18th

9am-10am HR Functions, Barb Canaday
10 am-11 am Social Media best practices/policies, Barb Canaday
11 am-12 pm Panel and Wrap up, led by Violet Wilson

Violet Wilson
Violet Wilson is the "V" in V & R Management. Violet is licensed and works full-time as a property manager. She updates her knowledge annually by taking workshops on Oregon Landlord/Tenant law and management practice.
Violet holds a Bachelor of Arts in Science from San Jose State University and a Masters of Science in Education from Western Oregon University. She was a high school teacher for over 34 years in California and Oregon schools.

Brad Kraus
Bradley Kraus is a member of Warren Allen’s landlord/tenant practice and represents many of the region’s most successful landlords. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, he attended law school and graduated cum laude from Lewis and Clark Law School. Along with landlord/tenant law, Mr. Kraus assists clients in various civil litigation, probate, and family law matters.

Prior to joining Warren Allen, Mr. Kraus gained valuable experience in each of his specialties working as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Katherine Tennyson at the Multnomah County Circuit Court and the Honorable Judge John F. Nichols at the Clark County Superior Court. During law school, Mr. Kraus assisted Multnomah County in a variety of civil litigation matters as a member of the County Attorney’s Office.
A native of New Ulm, Minnesota, Mr. Kraus continues to root for Minnesota sports teams in his free time. He is an avid sports fan, enjoys exercise, spending time with his dogs, and spending time with his friends.

Barbara Canaday
Barb Canaday (REALTOR®, ePro) is a Principal Real Estate Broker with 24 years industry experience, and has been a Platinum member of the Million Dollar Club and the RE/MAX Executive Club. Barb is the Managing Principal Broker and Senior Portfolio Manager for Relay Resources, a nonprofit provider of housing, education and jobs for the disabled and others facing barriers to employment in the Portland, Oregon area.

Barb graduated cum laude from the University of Portland with a BA in Communications and minors in Marketing and Management, completing a 4-year degree in 3 years while spending one of those years studying abroad. Barb was a National Merit Scholar semifinalist, received Honors at Entrance to the University’s Honors College, and was an Oregon Scholar. As a youth, Barb was an internationally ranked Equestrienne who was offered a junior position on the US Equestrian team in Colorado Springs, Colorado in preparation for the 1984 Olympics. Injuries ended her career.

Barb has volunteered in youth sports for 16 years as a coach, team mom, referee coordinator and athletic director. Barb and her husband have been married for 30 years. The Canaday’s have three children, a well-loved golden retriever and his equally loved cat.
